Art

My artistic practice is in conversation with and informed by my research as a political philosopher. Through theater and film, I reinterpret concepts developed in political philosophy, while digging deeper into the nuances and uncertainties of social dynamics that cannot be fully grasped through philosophical analysis.

As a queer immigrant of color, I create from within systems designed to silence criticism of the distress people like me endure. I transform this experience into narratives that confront audiences with the possibility of social change. My stories explore how people carve out spaces of intimacy and avenues of liberation within oppressive structures, even when such efforts fail. Characters resist erasure—whether by challenging gender norms in love and desire or rising against corporations that devastate the environment. The worlds I build—a dystopia born of climate catastrophe, a fraught birthday party, or the stage where a “gay gorilla” is born—invite audiences to confront their unease about society.
I pursue this vision through interdisciplinary methods, bringing the materiality of film into performance and elements of experimental theater into film. Inspired by filmmakers like Coralie Fargeat and Yorgos Lanthimos, as well as performance artists like amara tabor-smith, Pina Bausch, and Caner Teker, I create experiences that reveal the uncanny nature of our social arrangements. My work invites viewers to weigh the comfort of compliance against the costs of resistance, igniting conversations that outlast a performance or screening.
My philosophical research informs this practice. I have studied the moral limits of activism, the challenges that global warming poses to democracy, and the persistence of racial discrimination in an age of artificial intelligence. By carrying these ideas beyond academia—where they often remain confined to a small circle of experts—onto stages and screens, I aim to inspire audiences concerned with our political future.
